Cruella

I've been looking for a job in my industry for some time now. After so many applications and rejections I needed something to be proud of.

So I set off to sculpt a pretty woman.

Human likeness is really hard. Its really really hard. You just don't know how specific the human face is until you try to make it yourself from scratch.

I tried rendering this over and over. No matter what I tried I couldn't get it to look like Jades face. It just looked... off.

I noticed that Under the right lighting she looked perfect. Then I'd move my lights and everything would look like crap. I realized that I was following what I thought was perfect form, but completely ignoring the shadows. So I placed my lights according to the references I was using and started sculpting strictly following the shadows.

Eventually I ended up converting this to a cartoon. Cruella de Vill came naturally. Not sure how some people would feel about being compared to her, but oh well. I think she's pretty dope. And eventually I landed on something I was proud of.

During the extent of this 4 day project I applied to 17 jobs. I received 3 rejections and one interview so far.
Let's hope things go well.

I needed this to stay sane. I needed this to be proud. As Elon Musk once said - Attach yourself to your passion. Nobody can take that away from you.
